Nerja, founded by the Moors in the 10th century, was once a sleepy fishing village but now has a population of over 10,000. Located on the coast just 50 kilometres from Malaga it is easily accessed via the new N340 motorway in approximately 45 minutes.

Fortunately the town has escaped the high rise developments that have blighted many of the coastal towns with the old quarter remaining virtually unchanged. Enjoy a stroll through the narrow winding streets flanked by whitewash houses with wrought iron terraces overflowing with beautiful flowers and ringing out with the sound of songbirds.

At the heart of the town is the spectacular Balcón de Europa, once a Moorish castle it is now a superb promenade along a cliff top with panoramic views across the Med. and the many small coves and bays below with an awesome backdrop of the Sierra Almijara mountains. Next to the Balcón is the magnificent 17th century Church of El Salvador, in a style which is a charming mixture of baroque and Moorish.

Nerja also boast several beaches the most popular being the famous Playa Burriana with many restaurants serving food ranging from the traditional Spanish paella to several international offering. The town also is a gastronomic delight with countless restaurants and bars. Although not spoilt Nerja has a vibrant night life not to be missed.

Probably Nerja's most spectacular attraction are the fascinating caves, located just three kilometres from the centre of town. They include archaeological treasures such as paintings over 20,000 years old and other pre-historic remains. One of the enormous natural caverns has been transformed into a concert hall, where many performances are staged during the summer.

Nerja is also surrounded by several other pretty hillside towns including Frigiliana, Torrox and Competa. If you want to travel further a field Granada and the Serria Nevada, Rhonda and the beautiful villages in the Viñuela valley along with the awesome 700 hectares man made reservoir.

Nerja offers something for just about everyone and with and average of 330 days of sunshine it is the perfect place for a holiday or permanent home.
